This tutorial for a commission book cover takes you through the creation of a science fiction illustration using various techniques in Photoshop CC. Establishing composition, ideation, sketching and thumbnailing to form the groundwork. Subsequent stages discuss layer blends, colour theory, and the stages through to the final illustration including a brief look at kitbashing in Blender.
This video is a little over 2 hours in length, slightly sped up for the initial sketches but settling down to a watchable pace for the majority of the run time and all with full commentary. Also included in this tutorial is a layered PSD of the main work stages so that you can dig into that whilst following along. I only use a couple of brushes (available from WLOP) that are pretty basic.
